Common roles in human resource project include:
Development of implementation, education and communication plans for the project: This role is performed by the project leader with the help of the project executive sponsor who assists in developing the vertical and horizontal communication plans. The performance improvement consultant has the role of coaching the project leader on the best methods to execute this role. Typically, this role is termed as performance of the improvement plans. It is aimed at helping the struggling employees to improve their work and raise the level of the company. These plans include a description of behavior or performance that needs attention, objectives to be met and their time period and consequences for implementation failure (Ian, 2012).
Leading in project implementation: This is one of the prime roles of the project leader. He/she makes sure that the objectives of the project are attained. The project leader may require coaching on key strategies for successful planning, implementation and sustainability of the project from the performance improvement consultant (Kloppenborg, Nkomo, Fottler & McAfee, 2012). As a rule, this role is termed as implementation of organization policies. The human resource department in co-ordination with the line manager ensures that the policies of the company are implemented accordingly in order to achieve goals and objectives of the organization. This role may incorporate taking disciplinary actions against employees who do not follow the set rules and regulations (Armstrong, 2006).
Identifying, communicating and facilitating removal of barriers to ensure a success of the project: The project leader ensures that any barrier to the success of the project is removed. The main problem that bears progress of a project is poor employee relations. The project executive sponsor also helps in removing such obstacles to ensure the projects progress (Kloppenborg et al., 2012). Usually, this role is referred to as management of labor relations. The human resource officer ensures that there is a cordial relationship among employees. He/she mediates in case of any conflict, misunderstanding or dispute between employees or between an employee and a manager. Any work-related problems are brought to the human resource officer for resolution (Ian, 2006).
Supporting team with tools and methodologies in order to accomplish goals: The project leader has the responsibility of ensuring that his/her team is well equipped with necessary skills to accomplish the set goals and objectives. The subject matter expert may assist in this role by participating in demonstration/presentation and team meeting as required and also providing input to the team based on specific expertise he/she possesses that are required by the employees ( Kloppenborg et al., 2012). Typically, this role is called training and development. It is performed by the human resource department to improve the efficiency of the employees. They undergo training and development programs, which may be directly related to the employees job or off the job training (Armstrong, 2006).
The roles that result in shared responsibilities at TriHealth include ensuring closure of the project and removing the obstacles and the progress of the project.
Removing the obstacles and ensuring success of the project: This role is either jointly shared between the project leader and the project executive sponsor. The latter is expected to remove obstacles and ensure progress of the project. At the same time, the project leader is given the role of identifying, communicating, and facilitating removal of barriers to enable successful completion of the project (Kloppenborg et al., 2012). This results to shared responsibilities as well.
The short-term effects include the fast decision-making process. This is because decision-making is not centralized to one person; hence, the process is shortened. Another short-term effect is that employees will have a sense of belonging as they are involved in managing their activities.
The long-term effects include the improvement of job performance through the psychological empowerment of employees. The employees will be able to take responsibility of their actions since they take part in decision-making. However, in the long run, the managers may lose control of management due to the lack of a central decision-making organ.
There is a need for the project management to comply with labor laws. The project leader should have a role of ensuring compliance to labor laws. The project leader is to make sure that all set employment regulations are complied with. These issues include the number of breaks given per number of hours worked and age in which an employee can become employed or ought to retire.
